Our design and build services are available in many levels depending on your location and what works best for you.

With our custom design services, we will work with you to provide a plan that speaks to your needs and style. We will provide a floor plan and elevations plus details for construction. We can also suggest different interior and exterior finishes as well as color palettes. This all begins with a comprehensive conversation with our clients.

We will have a list of questions to start the thought process. It is important that we lay the groundwork for a successful design. These conversations will lead to a conceptual drawing that starts to dial things in. From there we move toward the final plan assured that we are on the right track. During the time we move from concept to final plans, the window for comments and questions will always be open.

TESTIMONIALS

A custom Small House built by Hobbitat in Maryland.

Deep Creek Lake is a special place for our family. We have been spending time at the lake for 4 generations and growing strong. In fact, it's the expansion of our family that inspired us to create additional space on our family land to allow for more people to stay together at the lake.

We have a small family cottage that we have managed to max out when it comes to sleeping space. I am the eldest of three and we have always talked about the idea of expanding with "tiny homes” while keeping the main cottage as the meeting place for meals and together time. My mom and I did a tour of Blue Moon Rising in the spring of 2016 and instantly fell in love with the construction of the hobs on the property. We had to know who was responsible for creating such well-designed, functional and beautiful works of art.

Bill and Sue Thomas welcomed us to Hobbitat with open arms! We toured their workshop and warehouse. They had a hob under construction so we could see a work in progress. We sat around the table exploring the possibilities and sharing our vision with them. Bill came out to our property to survey the land and made a personal recommendation for how we should approach the project. We also took Bill and Sue to an old farmhouse on my grandfather's property. The farmhouse was built in the early 1800s and is in need of being torn down.

The Hobbitat team came in and salvaged pieces from the farmhouse that included materials such as old doors, a bathroom sink, the kitchen cupboard, windows and pieces of wood. They incorporated pieces from the farmhouse into the hob. Throughout the process, we entrusted most of the decisions to the Hobbitat team. Their expertise and craftsmanship was far beyond anything that I could have dreamed up. We would visit the warehouse throughout the process to check on the progress. With every visit, we were amazed by the thoughtfulness that went into every decision. They maximized each and every square foot of the hob, but did so with a keen sense of design. Everything is incredibly functional, but absolutely beautiful! And to have the hob built with materials from my grandfather's farmhouse brings a sentimental value to the project that is priceless.

We are now enjoying the hob just about every single weekend. We comfortably sleep the 2 of us and our 85 lb golden doodle. There is even storage space to spare! We have made delicious dinners in our hob. We love having coffee on the porch in the morning and a glass of wine at night while the sun goes down. We setup the hob with internet so that we can work from "home" on Fridays to extend the weekend. We cannot say enough positive words about our experience in working with Bill and Sue Thomas. We highly recommend working with Hobbitat!

Building a home can be daunting in many ways. Bill has an extraordinary gift of communicating in such a way that there are never any surprises. Susie and I had an idea of the dream house we wanted but not the ability of putting the design to paper. This is Bill’s greatest gift. He has an ability to design a house that perfectly fits not only the needs of his customer but also sits perfectly on the lot. Appropriately sized rooms, attention to daily traffic patterns, and the little extra features that Bill incorporated into our home made our dream come true!

We had a plan. An idea. An “end-game“ goal. We met Sue and Bill Thomas with Hobbitat and together we made it happen! Don’t be in a rush. Every detail counts in the end!! We could not have worked with a more creative and accommodating company. Mike and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of our Hobbitat project.

Sugarbush is a custom-built tiny house that will eventually become our full-time residence in the future.

We had a vision and of course some specific requirements but left most of the creativity, engineering, and construction to the Hobbitat crew. They did not disappoint!

We are looking forward to the day we permanently relocate to Suga and make her our home. In the meantime, we get the pleasure of showing her off as an Airbnb rental for others to enjoy and a quick peaceful weekend getaway for us.

Mike and I are so thankful to have found Hobbitat and even more grateful to have gained wonderful new friends! Sandy & Mike O July 3, 2017
